I'm sure an earlier version A or B would work as well. The dealer says it's back ordered and has no idea when it will come in and he says no one seems to have one.

If you need an ECM and the used one is good and priced reasonably (a new one is about $310 with the usual discount) it may be the way to go. It definitely will need coding but so would a new replacement. These are best matched to a model of the same vintage. Never put an older model ECM in a newer bike.
