Now I've only been into Marlin's a couple years but I've bought and sold a few and looked at a few hundred. I haven't seen one yet that didn't have the stamp. If the gun was pre-remlin then wouldn't it have the JM stamp. With Marlin's reputation I would be shocked to find one that left the factory without the stamp of approval.I have a few Marlins where the JM was lightly or partially stamped.Heck,they completely missed the stamp on my 1947 Marlin 39A. As the others have said, JM just means that it is a proper Marlin. Even JM Marlins show up from time to time with factory defects, but it's much less likely IMO. Your's looks really nice.
