I have a 2019 Ford Edge and a 2020 Ford Escape Titanium, both with 2.0 L ICE engines that have a shudder/surge. at around 20 - 25 mph when first starting out with cold engine. Outside temperature affects if it happens or not. Escape transmission shudder. My problem, since is is apparently fixed now, was never caused by transmission fluid being cooked. Since new, this vehicle has done nothing but leasurly back-woods driving. $40Miles round trip to work, no stop and go, and the few trips we took with it were no more that 350 miles one way.The customer complaint about a shudder around 65 mph. I noticed on my 2013 F E titanium , just happened a few times lately when leaving from a parking spot and it's noticeable when shifting from reverse to drive , even with brake pedal applied, as the vehicle moves forward a jerky or shudder feeling is felt for a few seconds. I had a "cruising speed" shudder between 40-60 MPH (2017 1.5L AWD 135k), flushed the trans, and still did it. At least one of your cylinders has a faulty fuel injector and ignition coil, mine had two. It gets really expensive if you find out the damage was caused by the engine's computer which can send out faulty signals and damage the coils and injectors which is what happened to me.

13 Answers. its a classic for transmission problem from that generation. its a problem with the torque converter. they make an "anti'shudder" fluid you can add in with a tranny fluid change. go get a system flush and add the fluid. it will take care of your problem. 19 people found this helpful.

May 17, 2018 · Starting from a stop at a light or intersection there is a significant shudder at 10-15mph. After that it's gone. Right turn or left, or straight ahead. Light throttle not so noticeable. Up hill or moderate throttle its significant. Everything looks good underneath. Kind of a mystery. This is a low gear only issue. (AWD 2005, 3L automatic).
