But the 590's controls are objectively better than the 870's. You don't have to remove your hand from firing position to toggle the safety or the slide release on a 590. You do on an 870. The 500/590 is a little more rigid. The 590 is anodized finish and a heavier duty receiver. Depends what features you like though.
