1999 Prairie 400 wont get over 20mph. Full disclosure I usually work on Honda ATV's. But, a buddy of mine bought a 1999 Prairie 400 for "a good deal" on local craigslist. It seemed to idle great and even rev up in neutral just fine, but does not accelerate past about 20 or so mph (cant tell cause speedo is broke).Put it into gear (forward or reverse) and take off. 2) run at full speed, around 20MPH, and then decelerate. 3) sometimes, as the engine slows RPMs, there will be a gentle clunk and the Mule will be in neutral. Unhook the linkage; if it still pops out of gear, then it's an internal problem. The fan switch is in the radiator, so it does not get hot enough to kick on when the thermostat is stuck shut.
