I used the bottle the oil came in and slowly added the oil a pump or two at a time after I knew I had over 3 oz in the final. I filled it until the oil strarted to flow over the threads.

The only way to either drain or re-fill inverted (VTX 1800) forks is through the large cap at the top. It can get stuck pretty easily so you want to be sure you use a box end wrench or you'll likely round the corners and then really have a problem. Somtimes a little heat is also necessary to get them to release.
