Set the cap aside. Pull the spool out of the trimmer and remove any remaining line from it. Wipe the spool and the spool housing off with a towel to remove any debris, sand and grass. Pull out the tip of a measuring tape and place it on the ground. Extend the measuring tape to the 6-feet mark, lock the tape in place and set it on the ground.
