The old hammer is cut differently from the new hammers, because of this the cross bolt safety becomes useless.The Model 39 is designed to not hurt it's self when dry fired. However, we are talking about beating on those parts with a hammer. Literally. My worry is that some day, some how, the firing pin stop will wear enough to allow contact with the chamber. If that happens we've got a problem.

Over many, many rounds that "cam up" action causes fatigue and eventually the firing pin will break. That is, when I say many, I mean lotsa' many.
