Using a novel approach and a sample of 2,255 mutual funds, we decompose fund portfolios into socially responsible (green) and non-socially responsible (brown) components.In this paper, we shed light on why investors hold socially responsible mu tual funds by combining administrative investor data, behavior in incentivized experiments, and survey data.
