This is what you should do when you get bitten in Project Zomboid.

Yes it still sucks when you get zombie wounded due to the game being buggy, but it changes the dynamic so if you are prepared, you can fight off the infection. I play with transmission on (only bites, cooler imho), but with infection mortality set to never. That way you still get sick, but you don't die from it. The first way that a bite can kill is through blood loss. Bite wounds bleed a lot, and while they are untreated your health will rapidly drop. If your health reaches zero because of a bleeding wound you should not turn into a zombie. The second way that a bite can kill you is through an infected wound.

Zombies can "bite" people, which can inflict "scratched", "lacerated", or "bitten" status effects. It can also inflict none of the above, but those three each carry a chance to give you the zombie virus which does not have a status effect visible, and if you get it you are doomed to die barring bugs.
